Mosaic Records is an American record company known for its limited edition boxed set reissues of classic and historical jazz performances. Highly valued by jazz aficionados and collectors, their boxed sets also include unreleased tracks and alternate takes by important names in the genre.

This project is a direct-mailer designed in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of its founding. It includes information about the company, a list of available boxed sets, and instructions on how to order them.

Designing the logo served as the starting point for the creation of the rest of the mailer. It is reminiscent of dictionary entries, with the division of syllables and tint variation recalling the syncopated beats of jazz music and the cadence and rhythm of human speech.

To keep production expenses low, we used only one color, which is a cost-effective way to design for off-set printing. Tints of that one color added variety and kept the piece from looking flat. We adhered to other restrictions in the design of the brochure—which doubles as a commemorative poster—by using only one typeface and doing away with images. Finally, we took into consideration how the piece would unfold and laid out the copy accordingly.
